Oxyrhynchus: A City and its Texts

July 1—August 2, 1998: Eric North Room, Ashmolean Museum, Oxford

Welcome to the online version of the exhibition Oxyrhynchus: A City and its Texts, celebrating a hundred years of publication of The Oxyrhynchus Papyri. The exhibition accompanies a three-day conference with papers on the ancient city. Certain exhibition items will be published with fuller discussion in the conference proceedings, 1999. We have the incriminating photos.

This web site features selected images of the published Oxyrhynchus material featured in the exhibition, plus some extras. A few items currently in the exhibition are not shown here. Records with images are tagged : please consult our copyright statement before using them.

How to use this site:

Click on headings at left to bring up menus of exhibition material. Each menu leads to the exhibits from an individual display case.

Click on thumbnails to call up 150dpi images in a separate window: as a broad indication of file sizes, thumbnails are one-tenth the size (height and width) of the images they link to. The larger papyri come in a choice of 150dpi and 72dpi images.
