The deacon of the monastery of Apa Hierax gets a receipt from a sub-tenant:
"for the irrigation machine which draws water for the little orchard at Eutrygius', in place of the decayed ropes, two ropes or coils, total 2 ropes or coils only. ... Total two ropes or coils."
The two types of milling machine mentioned, strobili and calathi, are also specified in 3641, a work contract for a specialist stoneworker who makes them.
