P.Oxy. LXIII 4400 and Addendum

Justinian, Edict XIII, Cap. 24

ed. J. R. Rea

EES: Papyrology Room, Ashmolean Museum, Oxford

Fragments from a codex leaf. The two fragments published as '4400 Addendum' were recognised by Revel Coles as coming from the same leaf when volume LXIII was already in page proof.

This legislative edict sets out the duties of an official, the dux et Augustalis Thebaidos, in arranging for grain collected as tax to be sent to Constantinople and, as dole, to Alexandria. The official is to be personally responsible for making good any shortfall or delay.
