We are delighted to announce that Anna Magnetto will be delivering the 25th David Lewis Memorial Lecture on ‘Cyme in Aeolis. Preliminary remarks on a new inscription.’

During the Lecture, the most interesting sequences of a new document will be discussed. Although very fragmentary, the text allows us to investigate the city's relations with the Aetolian League and the Seleucid rulers in the mid-3rd century. It also raises some interesting questions about local historiographical production.

Anna Magnetto studied Classics and Ancient History at the Scuola Normale Superiore and at the University of Pisa, where she earned an MA degree in 1992. In 1996 she obtained a PhD in Ancient History at the Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa. She went on to continue her research activities at the Kommission für Alte Geschichte und Epigraphik des DAI in Munich (DAAD Stipendiat), at the University of California Berkeley (Fulbright Visiting Scholarship), at the École Pratique des Hautes Études in Paris (Marie Curie Fellowship), and again at the Scuola Normale Superiore (Research Fellowship). In July 2016, she became an Associate Professor in Greek History at the Scuola Normale Superiore and in 2020 she was appointed the Director of the Laboratorio di Storia, Archeologia, Epigrafia e Tradizione dell’Antico (SAET)

She is interested in epigraphy and institutions of the Greek world, diplomacy, economic history, and Greek historiography.

This lecture is freely open to all who wish to attend, and will be followed by a drinks reception.
